Whatever niche it is you hope to find to spend your life as or doing, PLEASE make certain it is not as a beige person

Beige is so not what you need.

You need to be vibrant, colourful, rich textured and always always looking, obsessively searching for and never stop being inquisitive for new ways to prevent stagnation.

Forget the beige stuff. Beige ist verbotten!

Sanjay,

One of my buddies sent me an email earlier today (after reading this post) saying that he was still looking for his niche. I sent him back a reply, asking when exactly he was looking for his niche - in between commercial breaks?

He watches a lot of TV. He collects "DVD"s. He goes home from work and flops in front of the idiot-box.

You asked: "What if you spend your whole life looking for that niche and don’t find it??"

No, you can find your niche. All it takes is the willingness to pry yourself away - at least for a few hours - from useless, mind numbing forms of worldly pleasures - like reading a magazine, or fiction, or watching a movie. All you need is a pen and a piece of paper, and the willingness to sit in a quiet corner for a few hours. Kids at home? Go to the library, darn it! But no excuses whatsoever. Actually, it all starts with never ever making an excuse - never again.

All you need to do is to think about what is it that makes you tick. What is it that everyone always said you were good at, while growing up. "You argue with your parents so much, I think you will be a lawyer when you grow up!". Heard anyone say something like that about you?

I have been thinking about writing something on how to find your niche, but I guess the time has come. Watch out for my post on this shortly.

Sanjay also wrote: "And how do you know when you have found it??"
It's funny you ask - I wrote about this just last week - last Friday in fact, and the post reads "Oh No, it's Friday!".

Trust me, you'll know it when you find your niche. Oh yeah, you'll know it alright! You'll know it like the back of your hand.

You can't miss that feeling when your brain feels like it is about to explode with the onslaught of ideas, with all the excitement. You'll be excited about going back to work on Monday. You'll know it when you can't stop thinking about it. You'll know it when you can't sleep at night, because your brain is on overdrive, brainstorming ideas and strategies, even while you sleep!

It's kind of like when you fall in love. No, scratch that - it is about falling in love - only, this is not about falling in love with a person - it is about falling in love with your future, what you can do, what you just realized you can do, what you can really achieve when you do what you love, when you do something you are crazy about - and in love with all the endless possibilities ahead of you.
