How To Get Back 43 Days Of Your Life (Hint: Grocery List)

Posted by Ravi Jayagopal on June 13, 2007

I save about 1/2 hour every week on grocery shopping thanks to this list. That’s 26 hours a year. Assuming I would have done this for at least 40 years of my life by the time I’m dead, that means 1040 hours saved (26 * 40).

1040 Hours = 43.33 Days

Yes, I get (at least) an extra 43 days of my life back because I used a simple, grocery list.

Can you imagine how much more you and I could save if we got just a little bit more organized in stuff we do every day (or week)?

Click here to download and customize the original excel spreadsheet that I use.

Take a copy of it and stick in on your refrigerator. Every time you run out of something, or if you are expecting guests and need more of something, just quickly jot it down. Yes, it is more productive than just writing down a plain list on a erasable board.

The grocery list is really helpful, but I wish we could add shoes, handbags and clothes to buy every week

Ravi, you are a genius! I have to agree with you on this one. Making a list is the only way to shop, but, my lists are handwritten and many times I end up forgetting things to put on it!

Now all I have to do is print out your ready made list, stick it on my fridge and add the items I need when Im about to run out… thanks Ravi, I owe you one!

Of course it depends on who is doing the shopping. A man tends to make a list, go into the supermarket, buy what’s on the list and leave.

If you go shopping with a female (girlfriend, wife, partner) then some of those 43 days saved may disappear. How many times have you half filled your basket and then realised that, as yet, you haven’t actually bought anything on the list?

Now those valuable life extending hours saved are whittled away as you run around getting what was really on your shopping list :o )

Dang, there go another 10 minutes of my life writing this email!

All comments to be taken with a pinch of salt

    John
