I started Techiiies.tv as a fun project, and I’m pretty confident that YouTube would run out of storage space before I run out of ideas for creating techiiie videos.

Oh, and by the way, if you’re wondering about the weird spelling of Techiiies, it was of course because the name “Techies” (with the single “i”) wasn’t available

And then Seth Godin published a book called “Tribes” and used the name Triiibes.com for its web site.

And I blatantly copied Seth’s idea, that is all

And ended up with Techiiies.com as well as Techiiies.tv

And a cool thing about Google Video (not to be confused with YouTube) is that you get a link right on the page, to download the video (iPod/iPhone friendly). So load up for offline viewing at the gym or on the train!

Last week, I searched YouTube (not Google) for how to “change wiper blades“, and watching a couple of the videos helped me change the wiper blades on my car in under 2 minutes (something I had been putting off for almost a year!)

In November, Americans conducted nearly 2.8 billion searches on YouTube, about 200 million more than on Yahoo, according to comScore.

If you are not using video on your site, you are leaving a lot of money (and visitors) on the table.

Let’s say you found this incredible video on YouTube that you wish to share with your subscribers/friends/family.

But you watched it already and say, the first 3 minutes is all garbage (or just plain boring).

So how do you link to the video such that your viewers skip the 3 minutes and go directly to the actual part of the video that you want them to watching from?

Here’s an “undocumented” feature of YouTube:

If the normal YouTube video link looks like this…

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I1_STvxiHV4

Then just add the anchor text (like a regular web URL anchor) “#t=XmYs” (where ‘m’ stands for minutes, and ’s’ for seconds) to the end of the video’s link – and this time should be the number of minutes you want the viewer to skip ahead to.

So, the skip-ahead link would look like this (the link says to skip ahead the first 1 minute and 19 seconds):

If you’ve ever wondered about the power of influence that videos – even free ones – can have in selling commercial products, look no further.

Recently, I was on the receiving end of this power, as I shelled out about $3,200 to buy a Yamaha Motif Keyboard – thanks(!) to two powerful videos on YouTube.

I’ve chronicled it in my rather new blog, MotiFreak.com.

My “Video Unit” link wasn’t available yesterday when the announcement was first made.

Was able to see it today.

“Linked” my Adsense account with my YouTube account.

Got the confirmation from Google in a few minutes (they do warn that it could take up to 12 hours).

Created my “player”, got the code.

The ads load asynchronously, and they seem quite on target from the other sites I tested so far.

Way to go Google!
