Special Invitation: FaceBook Group

3/11/2009 By Ravi Jayagopal Leave a Comment

The first web page I ever designed was in 1995, for a buddy who wanted to impress his girlfriend on her birthday.

So, I ended up publishing a (what was then popular) “Java Applet” thingamajig, on a free site called Geocities (Y! bought it later). It created this rotating cube that had a different picture of hers on each side. Oh, it was so pretty! And he scored
big-time points for it, of course 😉

Wow, makes me nostalgic… 🙂

Anyway, ever since those good ol’ days, one thing I always wanted to do, was to facilitate interaction between all of my various contacts: clients, associates and friends. But just never got around to it.

Finally, I created a Facebook group for this. So here we go…

=> http://Techiiies.com/group/

Introduce yourself, your web site, and just do what you do on Facebook 🙂

My Book on Amazon

3/3/2009 By Ravi Jayagopal Leave a Comment

Amazon currently has 17,338,442 books available for sale.

Of those 17 million, my book is currently ranked at 20,969. Which means my book is ranked at 0.1% of all books on Amazon.

0.1% means high up among the top 1% of all books.

These numbers mean not much more than a pat on the back. And maybe some extra juice to keep going on.

But not bad for a book with almost zero marketing.

And not bad at all for someone who wrote the book while commuting to work by train, stayed up late nights just to get in at least 10 minutes of writing for the day – and finally self-published it 🙂

Hope this inspires you to keep moving forward.

Frames Rock!

3/1/2009 By Ravi Jayagopal Leave a Comment

No, I did not just time-travel back to 1995.

Frames have always been considered a bad idea…

Bad for SEO.
Bad if you’re using JavaScript.
Bad if want to use DHTML.
Bad for bookmarking.
Bad for passing around links.

But here’s probably one of the few (or only?) remaining uses for frames (this is where frames absolutely ROCK!)

Check out how I’m using frames to link to totally different pages from all over my web site…
