Create Super Cool Buttons

3/23/2014 By Ravi Jayagopal 1 Comment

Ok, I have a confession to make.

I suck at creating graphics. Be it any kind – buttons, ecovers, banners, etc.

Here’s one I created at the peak of my graphic-creation prowess.

addtoorder1click

Makes me want to throw up 🙂

The problem with buy buttons, is that you can’t get them easily.

If you go search image sites, you may find some decent buttons – but they will never ever have the words you want. They will not have the colors you want.

If you want to outsource it to an image person, they usually charge you like $50 – $100 per image. And if they’ve never done any marketing online, then their buttons would look something like this:

buy-button-terrible

And that’s absolutely terrible! Feel like throwing up – twice!

I would rather go with my own terrible creation from earlier.

Not.

Anyway, if you want a quick way to effortlessly create beautiful buy buttons with your own text, maybe even dollar amounts on them, etc – then I’ve got the most awesome online tool that I discovered just recently.

Here are a couple of buttons I created myself.

Took me all of 1 full minute to create these.

add-to-cart

add-to-order

buynow

checkout

Actually, just the first one took 1 minute. The rest took like 10 seconds each, as all I had to do was change the text.

And this online tool that I used to create these beauties (yup, I have set my bar pretty low) even gives you a permalink – a permanent link to the template – that you can save and go back to each time you wish to create a new button in the future.

And the cool thing is that the permalink stores all of the button’s settings – including font type, color, background colors, gloss type, etc.

You can find a link to my template below. Feel free to modify it, save it, and add yours to the comments section below.

Oh, and feel free to right-click & save-as the above images to your computer and use them as you deem fit.

No charge. It’s free. Enjoy!

Video LightBox Script

12/20/2009 By Ravi Jayagopal 6 Comments

A Lightbox is a piece of JavaScript used to display images and videos in an ‘overlay’.

Basically, a user can click on an image to either have the image – or a video – magnified in a Lightbox window. It is usually accompanied by the use of a dark background, usually a dimming of the page over which the image or video has been overlaid, which helps highlight the image or video being displayed.

For example, click on the image below, and see what happens.

And you can see it in action, on a real, live web site, at the home page of http://DigitalAccessPass.com

This Lightbox script is available for free. It is actually open-source, and released under the MIT license – which means you can also use it in commercial projects.

Download of the day: Snag-It – Free, Full-featured License

11/26/2007 By Ravi Jayagopal Leave a Comment

Camtasia is giving away a slightly older version of their famous screen-capture software, Snag-it, that lets you go beyond the “Prnt Scrn” button.

Here’s where you can download it.

A Print-Screen Tip
If you press the “Alt” + “Prt Scrn” buttons together, you will capture only the front-most (active) window – which means you no longer have to capture your entire screen along with pieces of your desktop and other windows open, just to get a screenshot of your browser window.

Also, it helps to reduce the size of the browser (or whatever window you’re trying to get a screen-shot of) first, and re-size it to a much smaller size before hitting “Alt” + “Prnt Scrn”. That way you won’t get a gigantic image when you’re just trying to capture just a small portion of the window.

How To Get Back 43 Days Of Your Life (Hint: Grocery List)

6/13/2007 By Ravi Jayagopal 3 Comments

I save about 1/2 hour every week on grocery shopping thanks to this list. That’s 26 hours a year. Assuming I would have done this for at least 40 years of my life by the time I’m dead, that means 1040 hours saved (26 * 40).

1040 Hours = 43.33 Days

Yes, I get (at least) an extra 43 days of my life back because I used a simple, grocery list.

Can you imagine how much more you and I could save if we got just a little bit more organized in stuff we do every day (or week)?

Click here to download and customize the original excel spreadsheet that I use.

Take a copy of it and stick in on your refrigerator. Every time you run out of something, or if you are expecting guests and need more of something, just quickly jot it down. Yes, it is more productive than just writing down a plain list on a erasable board.

How To Display RSS Feeds On Your Site

12/27/2006 By Ravi Jayagopal Leave a Comment

If you know what a “blog” is, you probably already know what a “RSS Feed” is.

One of the best (not to forget, cheapest and fastest) ways to get free content for your web site, is to display a third-party RSS Feed. Every time the feed’s content changes, content on your web site automatically changes, thus keeping the content fresh and ever-changing on your site.

This trick can be used for both legit and illegitimate purposes. Sploggers (those who create Splogs – “SPam-filled bLOGS”) often use it to generate thousands of “made for adsense” pages, whose primary intention is to increase PageRank, get ranked higher for highly competitive and high paying keywords, get people to visit their splogs, and manipulating the navigation that they end up leaving by clicking on AdSense (or other PPC) ads.

But if you use it for legitimate purposes, you will find that publishing RSS feeds on your site can be a great way to provide targeted, complementary content for your visitors.

Magpie RSS is a great open-source PHP script that will allow you to easily publish any third-party RSS feed on your site. I have personally tried many RSS scripts, and highly recommend Magpie. I have even used Magpie to create a pretty cool web-based feed-aggregator service, a la Google Reader and Google Personalized home page.

If you want a quick and customizable free script that is based on Magpie, and gives you sample scripts that show you how to publish one, two or more feeds on a page on your web site, go get my Free RSS Feed Publishing script, “FeedMonster”.
