Racism

Is Political Correctness overrated? Have we gotten over-sensitive as a people? This picture was taken for my 1st anniversary of my podcast that I launched in Sept 2015. I had posted this on my web site. And last month, when I sent out an email to my list with a blog post that had this picture, I had one of them - an old customer and acquaintance on FB - write back and say "I hope you're not promoting ISIS in that pic of yours". My jaw just dropped, and my heart sank into the pit of my stomach there for a minute. I googled it, and apparently holding up your index finger is some kind of an ISIS signal, or something. I don't watch the news, I am the worst when it comes to current events. So I had no idea. Tens of thousands of people on my list, and this one guy ruined my day - quite a few days. Thanks to my brown-ness, I've faced a lot of racism in my life. But never before has someone accused me of promoting terrorism! Oh well, you live and you learn :-) Recently, on someone else's podcast - about podcasting - I heard a guest make a strong statement against gay people. Now, full disclosure: I'm Hindu, I'm not gay, and I did not vote in this past US elections. So I have no dog in the fight, and no religious or political leanings about the sensitive nature of this subject. But this is not about religion or politics. But I did have gay friends and co-workers back from when I used to have a day-job, and I did wonder about the human side of it, the intolerance of what this guest said. But then I wondered further: Who am I to even question the political correctness of it? Isn't this what free speech is all about? It's not like this was a recurring theme on the podcast - just one thing that one guest said. It's easy to make a big deal about everything and get offended by everyone. Or I can just hit the fast-forward button and move on, and focus on what I REALLY care about :-) #GoCavs #theland #DAP #Love #peace #politicallyincorrect #nopolitics #LiveAndLetLive
